Check on abandoned dogs leads to firearm and drug charges for Huntsville man

On Tuesday February 6, 2018 Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified that two dogs had been abandoned in a local hotel room. There was concern for the well-being of the dogs and they needed to be removed.

Huntsville OPP attended and found the room in complete disarray. In the course of attempting to locate the owner of the dogs, officers located drug paraphernalia along with a modified shot gun. With the assistance of Muskoka Crime Unit, a Search Warrant was executed and as a result, Patrick DEMARCO (26yrs) of Huntsville has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of Prohibited Firearm C.C.
  • Possession of Firearm contrary to a Prohibition Order, Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of Schedule I Substances, Contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Huntsville on Wednesday March 21, 2018 to answer to his charges.

The dogs were in good health and did not need to be seized. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the OPP at 705-789-5551 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
