Buckle up, watch your speed, don’t text or drink and drive: it’s Canada Road Safety Week

.

A message from the OPP

The Canada Road Safety Campaign starts today across Ontario and runs to Monday, May 24, 2021. This campaign is the second of ten annual provincial traffic safety campaigns that help reduce the incidence of impaired driving on roadways here in North Muskoka.

Members of the Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will be participating in this campaign with an emphasis on the “Big 4”. The “Big 4” includes seatbelt compliance, distracted driving, impaired driving, and speeding.

Everyone travelling in a motor vehicle must properly wear a seatbelt and children must be properly secured in child car seat. Drivers are responsible for ensuring all passengers under the age of 16 are properly secured in either a seat belt or child car seat. Failing to do this will result in a fine totaling $240 dollars and two demerit points.

Huntsville OPP remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired drivers. The OPP is reminding drivers that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when operating a motor vehicle.

Let’s work together to make our roadways the safest in Canada.
