Boater charged with impaired

Members of the Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a boater with impaired operation on Rebecca Lake.

On June 11, 2022, shortly before 10:00 a.m., Huntsville OPP officers responded to a report of a suspected impaired individual in the water after their boat capsized on Rebecca Lake. Upon arrival, officers placed the individual under arrest and transported them to the Huntsville Detachment for further breath tests.

As a result of the investigation, Oleg RIJENKO, 56 years of age of Vaughan, has been charged with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Assault a Peace Officer

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Huntsville on July 26, 2022.

With the boating season well underway, boaters are reminded to please boat sober and help ensure a safe environment for all water users. Impaired boating is impaired driving and carries the same penalties. For more information, please visit https://www.ontario.ca/page/impaired-driving.
