Witch hazel
Witch hazel is a natural extract that has been used for centuries. It’s from a plant native to North America and is found in many skin products including Tucks, a skin cleanser where thin pads are soaked in witch hazel. It can be used for cleaning the rectum after a bowel movement and for general irritations of the skin.

Don’t burn the meat
Just a reminder as the barbeque season heats up: Take care when grilling meat on the barbeque and don’t overcook or burn it. This can lead to the forming of harmful compounds that can increase the risk of cancer. Marinating meat before cooking is also a good idea.

Singing can help those with dementia
In England, there’s a program called Singing for the Brain. It promotes choir-singing for those living with different types of dementia. Singing old familiar songs help them feel more connected to the people and the world around them. Songs like You are My Sunshine, Amazing Grace, Over The Rainbow and This Land is Your Land are some of the examples of the songs that create real joy and a lot of smiles on the faces of participants.

Controls on e-cigarettes
Health Canada has been asking Canadians what type of regulations they would like to see implemented to control e-cigarettes. The public consultation time has expired and it is hoped that new regulations will be forthcoming on all “vaping” products. Even though no smoke is released like with tobacco products, there is still a vapour that may contain nicotine, propellants an other products. Smoking and vaping in public may be restricted to the same areas.
