It was a silver-lined weekend for some of Huntsville’s girls hockey teams.
Three Huntsville Sting teams competed in the North Bay Ice Boltz tournament from November 2-4, 2018, two of them skating away with silver medals.
The Atom Sting played against eight other teams in their age category, while both the PeeWee White (Armstrong) Sting and PeeWee Black (Hayes) Sting were part of the six teams competing in their age category and had to face off against one another in the semi-final game. It was PeeWee Black who would move on to the championship game.
The weekend was filled with plenty of highs including several girls scoring their first goals of the season, and a couple of shutouts for Sting goalies.
The PeeWee Black (Hayes) Sting began their weekend with a 3-1 win over Gloucester. A 4-1 loss to Nepean in their second game had the team yearning for another win, one they fought for in their next match up against North Bay and skated away with a 1-0 final score in their favour. After moving past the PeeWee White Sting in the semi-final round, the PeeWee Blacks again met Nepean for the championship game. The team played hard and skated away with silver after Nepean notched a 3-1 win.

The Atom Sting began the weekend playing against Nepean 5 on Friday, November 2, winning 1-0. On Saturday, November 3, Huntsville met Nepean 3 for their first loss, 3-1 for their opponents. But the Atoms’ luck turned around in the afternoon when Huntsville met the Orillia Hawks on the ice and took another win, 2-1. Sunday’s game four against Gloucester Cumberland was another win with a score of 3-0.
In the championship game, the Huntsville Atom Sting competed against Nepean 3 for the second time. They didn’t pull out the win but definitely earned the silver with all of their hard work.
Coaches Ryan Solman and Pete Corbett said they are proud of all the Atom girls for an amazing weekend of hockey and sent special thanks to all the moms and dads and grandparents for their love of the game, without whose support they couldn’t have had such a successful weekend.
The Huntsville Atom Sting are looking forward to defending their title at the Sting’s annual home tournament in January.
