More than 1000 athletes — including local ones — participated in the 2026 Ontario 55+ Winter Games hosted by Huntsville at venues across Muskoka, including East Parry Sound.
The three-day event gave athletes an opportunity to make new friends, tour the community and businesses, use local accommodations, and participate in their favourite sports thanks to the dedication of hundreds of community-minded volunteers.
To participate, athletes had to be active Ontario Senior Games Association (OSGA) members within their regional district and demonstrate their competitive prowess by qualifying at local or district events before being able to compete at the Provincial Games.
“Welcoming 1000 athletes to Huntsville was an incredible experience. The energy was uplifting. The community came together with over 300 volunteers assisting at area hotels, restaurants, and venues to host our special events and the games! The economic boost to our community is estimated to be $1.2 million over the three days they were here. Our hometown pride showed up for the win,” said Ontario 55+ Winter Games General Manager Leslie Hutcheson.
Onario Games Chair Scott Morrison agreed. “It was an absolute honour to be chairman of the 2026 Ontario 55+ Winter Games. It was the first games that I was involved with, so I was a bit nervous about how everything would go. But I was blown away by how amazing the event was. We had so many fantastic athletes in our town and so many of their friends, family and coaches. I was able to meet so many of the competitors, and they absolutely loved their time in Huntsville, Almaguin Highlands and South Muskoka.
“I need to give a huge thank you to the 300-plus volunteers who gave so much of their time to make sure that these games were a success. The economic benefit to our communities was massive. I heard from a lot of athletes who can’t wait to come back and visit our beautiful town,” said Morrison.

Thank you to the volunteers and organizers. Our 65+ men’s hockey team (Mitchell Funeral Home Wolves), for one, had a great time.
