A win is a win, as the Jr C Hawks take Barrie

It wasn’t pretty but it was still two points as the Huntsville Jr. C Hawks edged the Barrie Bombers Saturday night at the Jack Bionda arena by a score of 8-7. Again penalties in the third period proved to be costly but the Hawks were able to hold on for the one goal victory.

It was their third win in four starts this season and sets the stage for a showdown with last year’s champions from Clarington Thursday night in Huntsville.

Huntsville led 3-1 after the first period and 6-3 after forty minutes.

Tyler Conn, back from school playing his first game of the season with the Hawks, led the way with three goals setting up another. Chris McLaughlin also scored twice while singles went to Josh and Nate Zantingh and Matt Loader.

We let them play with us. They outscored us 4-2 in the third period and three of those were on a power play so that’s not good. I’m not sure what it is. Our pre-game preparation was great. I really didn’t expect that. A lot of it is attitude and we have to work on that. I think we have one of the best teams when our heads are in it, but when attitude gets in the way then skills kind of go to the wayside. When we park the attitude on the bus then it seems to work great for us. But two points tonight is two points.Coach Joe O’Halloran

Huntsville’s game with Clarington comes on the same night as the Huntsville High School prom. O’Halloran acknowledges that will probably put the team at a disadvantage. He expects that game to be a good barometer as to where they stand competitively.

“They (Clarington) set the standard and in the past they have had our number. Hopefully we come to play although we may be a little short because of prom night, but we will be looking at throwing everything we can at them.”

Mitch Wagner played in the Hawks goal last night and Zack Hubbard will get the call Thursday against Clarington. The plan is to alternate the goaltending role for the foreseeable future.
