If you’re between 16 and 24 years old and looking for summer work, one of these Ontario summer employment opportunities might be for you!
There are more than 2,000 opportunities — including internships and summer jobs — available for young people in communities across Ontario. Two jobs are currently listed for the Huntsville area:
- Stewardship Youth Ranger Program at Arrowhead Provincial Park (16-17 years) (also see the job posting here)
- Student Marine Assistant with the OPP (18-24 years)
In a release, the Ontario government said, “Through these opportunities, young people will gain a deeper appreciation of their role in the stewardship of Ontario’s natural resources – including supporting biodiversity and helping combat climate change. These employment programs also give Ontario’s youth the opportunity to obtain meaningful work experience, develop practical, personal and professional skills, and enhance their career networks by interacting with local experts and employers.”
MNRF’s Stewardship Youth Ranger Program is an eight-week summer program that offers youth the opportunity to work outdoors on natural resource management projects in their own communities. Each team consists of one team lead and four rangers. Rangers may also have an opportunity to obtain two high school co-op credits during the summer. In 2016, 45 teams will be located in 37 communities. Applications close April 8, 2016.
The Huntsville OPP detachment will be hiring one student for summer 2016. The program provides an opportunity to gain exposure and hands-on experience in Law Enforcement. The student will learn marine safety and related legislation, boat maintenance, prepare reports and interact with the public as a representative of the OPP. Marine Students work alongside a qualified OPP marine operator, on a police vessel, conducting marine checks on recreational boaters for safety equipment usage, safe vessel operations and enforcement of statute law which includes the Canada Shipping Act 2001, Criminal Code and the Liquor License Act. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a Pleasure Craft Operators Card, have a minimum Ontario G2 Driver’s License, and have CPR & First Aid qualifications. Applications close February 16, 2016.
