Curbside garbage collection in Muskoka will transition to a bi-weekly winter schedule beginning the week of November 3, 2015.
Residents are encouraged to avoid inconvenience by referring to the waste management schedule here: Find your collection schedule
During the winter schedule, sorted recycling and green bins continue to be collected every week. These programs continue year-round in an effort to keep recyclable materials from entering Muskoka’s landfill. When recycled, aluminum cans and plastic bottles are repurposed into new products in less than two months; if put into a garbage bag, those materials may take over 100 years to break down.
The “Waste Wizard” tool on the District of Muskoka’s website is a great resource to use, to help you understand how to dispose of various garbage and recycling products. Simply type an item or product in the search bar, and the tool will let residents know if it is recyclable, compostable, or destined for the landfill. You can find the Waste Wizard HERE.

Mr. Beiers, our compost is collected every week. We live in town.
Can anyone explain to me why kitchen waste (meat/fruit/veg scraps) are only collected every 2 weeks yet recyclables picked up every week? Those of us living in small/tiny apartments have to deal with the smell of decomposing items in a confined space for 2 weeks but dry recycled items can go out weekly. It never made any sense to me.
