Who’s ready for ski season? Hidden Valley opens Friday

Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area (HVHSA) staff have been working hard to get the slopes ready for a sneak peek this weekend.

The ski hill is expecting to have two operating lifts this weekend―both the Red chair and the Blue chair will be turning―with as many runs open as the weather will permit. In addition, there will be a small terrain park set up for skiers and boarders to play in. The lifts will be operating Friday, December 13 through Sunday, December 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

HVHSA’s regular 2019-20 season will begin Friday, December 20.

New this season: LED lighting systems have been installed to give skiers and snowboarders a clearer and brighter experience at night. “We’ve increased the number of fixtures and changed the light colour to pure white, which will provide better overall brightness and definition in the snow,” says general manager Andrew Rusynyk.

The new lights are also more energy efficient. “We can run three-and-a-half light fixtures using the same power consumption as one of our old fixtures,” says Rusynyk. “Our power consumption will be considerably less, helping us to be more environmentally friendly.”

Experience the difference the new lights make during night skiing, available most Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 4-9 p.m. beginning Friday, Dec. 20. Night lift tickets are $26 plus tax for all ages, all season long.

“Night skiing or snowboarding is a great time to hit the slopes, makes a great after school activity for the whole family or a spot to hang out with your friends,” says Rusynyk.

Everyone at HVHSA is excited for opening day and can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the ski hill for the 2019-20 season. Following this sneak peek weekend, HVHSA will be open for holiday hours starting Dec. 20, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day until Jan. 4 with the following exceptions: Dec. 24 9-4, Dec. 25 10-3, Dec. 31 9-4.
