Want to be a director? Huntsville Theatre Company workshop will show you how

The Huntsville Theatre Company (HTC) is offering exciting learning opportunities through its Artists’ Workshop initiative—a variety of three-hour introductory workshops at the Algonquin Theatre—beginning this month.

The first workshop, ‘Introduction to Directing’ led by Mallary Duncan, will discuss how to approach a project as a director from both the creative and practical sides. Registrants will also have the chance to do some hands-on scene work on the Algonquin Theatre stage.

“I am thrilled to kick off this initiative as there are so many talented artists in Muskoka who may be looking for a resource to expand their skills and/or learn something new,” says Duncan. “I believe in artists teaching artists and collaborative exploration is the way to create exceptional theatre.”

HTC President, Lauren Saunders, says these workshops are a chance for local artists to grow their skills or simply explore something that might interest them.

“We are so privileged to have talented professionals in our community who are excited to share their knowledge. These workshops are a way to provide eager participants with new knowledge or a new perspective on the creation of a production,” says Saunders. “In theatre, we always see the finished product on stage but the work behind the scenes is what brings that production to life.”

The ‘Introduction to Directing’ workshop takes place Wednesday, April 17 from 5-8 p.m. at the Algonquin Theatre. The cost is $15 per participant. To sign up for this workshop, visit www.algonquintheatre.ca.

If you have questions about the workshop, email HTC Production Manager, Mark Rodrigues, at [email protected].
