It was a tough weekend for the Jr C Otters.
On Friday, November 3, the Otters met the Stayner Siskins at home, falling 9-2 to their opponents. Coach Brent Tomlinson said that the team didn’t have a high enough compete level this game. “We got behind early and never found a heartbeat that night,” he said. It appears that Otters forwards could not get past the Siskins defense —Huntsville made just 24 shots on Stayner’s goalie.
Then, on Saturday, November 4, the Otters travelled to Orillia to play against the Terriers. The boys had a good warm up but fell behind by three goals in the first ten minutes of play. Before the end of the period, Otters #11 Ermi Mulatu was able to put a puck in the net, assisted by #10 Cody Jones, to bring the score to 3-1.
The second period was back and forth for both teams with scuffles by the nets and unsportsmanlike hits, earning penalties on both sides. “Discipline and penalty minutes continue to cost us,” said Coach Marc Gagnon.
In the third period, a goal by #25 AJ Campbell, assisted by #10 Cody Jones, closed the gap to 3-2. Even with fans cheering “game on” to encourage the players, Orillia’s goaltender was on point and would not let another Otters shot between the bars. “We ran into a hot goalie in Orillia as the shots on net were 55 Huntsville and 33 Orillia,” confirmed Coach Gagnon.

With the team incurring ten penalties over the three periods, Captain Nathan Delarosbil #19 reflected, “Winning games becomes that much harder when we are short-handed for the majority of the game. Our record completely reflects our teams’ habit of playing without discipline.”
“The team fell behind early and put themselves in a deeper hole through a lack of discipline and penalty trouble,” added Coach Tomlinson.
The Otters play three games this weekend: home games on Friday, November 10 and Sunday, November 12 versus Penetang and Alliston, and an away game at Penetang on November 11.
