The Township of Lake of Bays announced today the purchase of the Logging Chain Lodge property, a well-known landmark at 2840 Highway 60 in Dwight, Ontario.
Located across from the very popular public Dwight Beach and Boat Launch, this prime property represents a strategic opportunity to meet the evolving needs of the Dwight community.
“I encourage you to not just look at this as a land purchase. It’s an investment in the literal heart of Dwight. A decision that will pay dividends for generations to come,” said Mayor Terry Glover, Township of Lake of Bays. “Keeping this important piece of land in public hands means making sure future development reflects the priorities of our village, not private interests. We’re honouring the area’s heritage and will be giving everyone a real say in shaping what comes next.”
Established in 1947, Logging Chain Lodge has been a family-owned resort operated by the Tapley family for four generations. While the land will no longer be used for cottage rentals, the municipality is committed to honoring the rich heritage of the site by preserving the original name in future references and developments.
The municipality acknowledges that plans for the property are still in the early stages. There will be opportunities for residents to share their ideas in the future, and the Township encourages everyone to stay involved as the process moves forward.
Community members are encouraged to visit the new property’s engagement page at engage.lakeofbays.on.ca to find more information and subscribe for updates and future surveys.

Brilliant move by our township of Lake of Bay’s officials.. I’m looking forward to seeing plans for that gorgeous property. I hope those plans prioritize the people who live here and our seasonal residents (cottagers) instead of just addressing tourists who visit fleetingly.
You said it Jamie and Bonnie. I am deeply disappointed by many of the decisions made by Council.
Jamie Lockwood,
THANK YOU for expressing your frustration at a Council & Mayor who have wasted valuable opportunities for our town, via selling off properties & lands we desperately needed.
These transactions were so shocking that everyone knows the City’s name.
Foresight – 0
We are left with a train returning to town soon – and they Sold our train station for $2.!!
Properties that could have provided desperately needed Parking – Sold.
Our gift from the G8, our State of the art Waterloo Centre & land
worth approx. 15 million Sold for 3.9.
Suggestions that it would have made a spectacular City Hall & Cultural/Event Centre were dismissed. Now we are expected to support millions of dollars worth of remedial work needed on old city hall.
Outsiders don’t believe what’s been happening here.
Embarrassing.
A very good, forward-looking acquisition for Lake of Bays. Thank you to the Council for your opportune decision and foresight.
Was this is the budget? What is the price tag?
The ability to have the vision of where your community is headed is very important. Control of that beautiful piece of land is in the right hands.
I won’t mention the Town where I am from but have been told they ” are not in the Real Estate business” by a former mayor and councilor. An iconic piece of Real Estate was in their grips and they let it go. Several houses in prime areas that would be SO needed now for parking, we’re sold to others. 👏 to you Lake of Bays. Vision keeps positive direction for generations.
