Town of Huntsville seeks design submissions for secondary residential dwellings

The Town of Huntsville is now seeking submissions from qualified designers for designs of Secondary Residential Dwelling Units (SRDU).

The selected designs will allow the Town of Huntsville to offer a complete start-to-finish package that includes not only pre-approved plans, but also all necessary building permit documentation.

The Town of Huntsville initiated the SRDU pre-approved toolkit to provide a complete permit package to offer the following benefits:

  • Reduce Friction – Simplify the process for homeowners by minimizing the effort and red tape in a building project – just choose a design and build.
  • Boost Adoption – Make participation in the program more appealing by offering a turnkey solution to increase the supply of affordable housing.
  • Ensure Quality and Consistency – Standardize design and documentation across all projects.
  • Support Designers and Manufacturers – Offer royalties or licensing fees for each package sold, creating a sustainable business model for contributors.

The Town is inviting designers to submit their expression of interest by the deadline of October 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. EST. For full details on the requirements of a submission and for more information, please visit huntsville.ca

Why not use Sean Fraser’s Liberal housing catalogue of designs which are supposedly readily permittable?
