As we head into warmer days and begin cleaning up after a long winter and spring flooding, the Town’s annual road maintenance has begun.
Residents may notice common seasonal road conditions such as potholes, soft shoulders, frost heaves, and wet or muddy gravel roads – all signs that spring is officially here.
Regular maintenance activities have begun, and residents can expect to see Public Works crews filling potholes and conducting street sweeping activities over the coming weeks. Town crews are hard at work addressing these issues, with extra resources in place to support the effort.
The Town asks for and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as this maintenance is underway.
“We’ve experienced a long, hard winter and tough spring. We have more than 385 kilometres of roads to maintain, and while some years are more challenging than others, we prepare for this work every year,” says Randy Bissonette, Director of Operations at the Town of Huntsville. “Additional crews and equipment are ready to help tackle repairs as quickly as possible, ensuring our roads are in the best possible condition for the season ahead.”
Motorists are reminded to adjust to changing road conditions and give crews space as they work hard to get Huntsville’s roads cleaned up.

Got sent on a lot of ‘training ‘ courses back in my working days. One I remember was at York and involved instructing employees on what the job was and how you wanted it done. We were told that you tell them what you want done, you show them what and how you want it done and from time to time after that, you check. To see if what you want is getting done how you want. Supervising.
The comments here seem to be of the opinion that there is something lacking in the way a job is getting done. It’s been a long time since I saw anyone ‘tamping’ filler into a pot hole. It used to be that the truck would back and forth over it a bit, but haven’t seen that for a while either. It doesn’t take long for soft filler to be blown and tracked from a pothole. Time and material wasted.
So where is the problem? Seems easy to get these potholes, but damn hard to get rid of them.

We had a $6,000 repair bill to our car recently, not due specifically to spring potholes but to years of driving on Williamsport Road. They took out the pavement on our section of the road a few years ago and replaced it; so far there are NO potholes. But the state of the rest of the road is abysmal. And filling potholes without tamping them down is useless. I heartily agree with the other comments.
Well its a little to late. The damage to my vehicles this spring, 5 drive axles 4 sets of struts, 6 ball joints 1 set of lower control arms and 2 wheel alignments. Seems to me maintenance stops when flooding occurs. Contractors and employees must be delighted to roads and only roads. I’m only one person what has everyone else suffered in this 2 months of hell..
And for God’s sake if I see another worker patting down cold patch with a shovel and not a pavement tapping tool i will scream. If your not going to do the job right tear up the pavement we can grade it easier. If you need a tamper I have one at my home come and get it.
Please, please use vibrating plate compactors to tamp down the tar otherwise just putting tar into the pothole and expecting cars,to flatten it doesn’t really work.
