For 30 years, Tamarack North has been building high-end residential and seasonal homes in the Muskoka Lakes area. With an increasing number of requests to build in Huntsville and Lake of Bays, the company now plans to open an office in Huntsville to service this area.
A site plan application for a new building at 20 Hanes Road was presented to Huntsville’s Planning Committee on July 11. It includes a 200 m² commercial building and associated parking.
The 2,033 m² lot is bounded by Hanes Road and Centre Street on two sides, and existing businesses Huntsville Honda and The Beer Store on the others.
Town staff noted that no changes to the proposed site plan are required, although the applicant will need to address several issues. Due to the grade of the entrance off of Hanes Road, a full fire access route can’t be provided but the owner had proposed sprinklers in the building which is in compliance with the Building Code Act. The lighting plan will need to be revised to ensure no light spillage occurs onto the neighbouring lands or street; all lights will be dark-sky compliant. The stormwater management plan is still under review.
Councillor Jonathan Wiebe said that he remembers when committee approved the creation of this and the adjacent lot and wondering what could go on the site. “Now when I see this come forward, I realize that it’s actually a perfect fit. It’s a prominent corner and a beautiful building that shows off what you do,” he told company representative Neil Cambray.
Committee approved the site plan conditional on all final plans and drawings being to the satisfaction of the Town and all other commenting agencies.
Cambray said that the company has been in business for 30 years and employs 107 full-time carpenters, labourers, carpenter helpers, painters, and various tradespeople. Two families will be moving to the Huntsville area, one from the Windsor area and the other from St. Catharines, to join the Huntsville office.
“We are very excited to expand upon what we’ve already done in the Port Carling area,” he said, “and to continue our growth and make cool projects wherever we can.”
