Syringe in vehicle leads to impaired conviction

A man who was supposed to be under house arrest was pulled over on Highway 11 for impaired driving, a Bracebridge court heard recently.

Frederick Trottier, 56, of North Bay, pled guilty to impaired driving and breaching the terms of court orders.

Court heard that on Jan 18, 2025 the Bracebridge OPP received a call about a possible impaired driver on Highway 11 southbound in Gravenhurst.

Police caught up with a Jeep being driven by Trottier. When they pulled him over, police noticed a tourniquet and syringe inside the vehicle, and Trottier was arrested.

Court heard that toxicology results have not yet been returned but Trottier is admitting a substance impaired him.

Court heard Trottier was under house arrest in North Bay at the time and was not supposed to be out of his residence. Court also heard he has a criminal record and was awaiting sentencing for drug trafficking charges at the time of his arrest.

Trottier was sentenced to 30 days in jail, a $1,200 fine and a 12-month driving ban.
