Syrian refugee family arrives at the end of November

Nearly one year after submitting our application, SRS Huntsville is thrilled to announce that a family of Syrian refugees is finally set to arrive in Huntsville on Tuesday, November 29.

The family includes Mom, Dad and five children – two daughters aged 7 and 5 and three sons aged 11, 9 and 2. The house is ready – fully furnished and stocked with generously donated toys, clothing and food. The volunteers are ready – over 60 people are waiting to put their skills and energy to work helping the newcomers.

Tawingo College has generously offered two large passenger vans and drivers to help us safely transport everyone from the airport – with room for all the car seats and booster seats that will be needed. Then the real work begins.

SRS Huntsville has been learning from other sponsor groups with experience helping refugees settle in Canada. Our first priority will be getting the kids enrolled in school and setting up English language training for the parents. We look forward to sharing all that Huntsville has to offer to ensure our community’s newest family get the best start possible in Canada.

SRS Huntsville – SRS (Syrian Refugee Sponsorship) Huntsville is an ad hoc group of area residents committed to sponsoring a Syrian refugee family to come to Huntsville and to provide the best possible start to their new life in Canada. Find the group on Facebook at Syrian Refugee Sponsorship Huntsville.

    Dear Arlene,
Your message was so positive, regarding the reception of our new Syrian residents.
What compelled you to follow it with such a hateful comment about the US, and their
president elect? Hate seems to generate more hate.
South of our border? Move to the US, if you agree with Trump?
Do NOT connect your US political views, with the people of Huntsville welcoming this Syrian family… it’s a very dis-jointed message, inappropriate to try to put these two thoughts together.
Clarify, retract, or apologize for this dumb posting, Arlene. What WERE you thinking?
Let’s give this Syrian family the best we can, and leave the Politics OUT!!!

May all of Huntsville welcome the new family from Syria,,,try to imagine
what life would be like if our places were reversed and please
act accordingly to our new Muskoka residents…..
Remember Donald Trump lives south of the border and any
Canadian that thinks he walks on water should move south
    and join him…………………..
