Sustainable Huntsville unveils programming for Earth Week – April 18-24

The Town of Huntsville’s Sustainable Huntsville program, together with the Huntsville Public Library, Transition Huntsville, and EcoMuskoka Conservation, is proud to unveil an entire week of activities for its second annual Earth Week celebration, April 18-24, 2016.

Earth Day has taken place on April 22nd every year since 1970 and has become one of the most celebrated environmental events worldwide. This is the second year that the Town has expanded the celebration to encompass the entire week. There is at least one event per day for a total of ten throughout the week-long celebration. Many of the events are free and are suitable for the whole family. Celebrations include:

  • Reel Alternatives presents, “All the Time in the World,” a film about disconnecting from technology to reconnect with the natural world, at the Algonquin Theatre.
  • Story time and up-cycled crafts at Huntsville Public Library, featuring local author and environmentalist Matt Richter
  • Launch of the Urban Streetscape Tree Planting Program
  • “Planning for Climate Change in Muskoka,” a lecture series at the Huntsville Public Library by Muskoka Watershed Council
  • Annual Compost Giveaway at Madill Yard
