Wayback Wednesday, sponsored by Jamie Lockwood, broker/owner of Sutton Group Muskoka Realty, with family roots of more than 100 years in Huntsville and Almaguin

We’re not sure of the date of this photo of Stedmans in downtown Huntsville, but according to Muskoka Heritage Place, the Stedmans store moved to Huntsville’s downtown core at 8 Main St. East in 1956.
Stemans stayed at its location in Huntsville until 1970, when Premier Discount took over. In March 1975, the location became home to Huntsville Discount Drugs and has been home to many more businesses since Huntsville Discount Drugs moved next door in 1980. Some of the businesses at that location have included: Discount Appliance Centre, Pine Furnishings, Great Things, Huntsville Pet Shop, Lamplighter Antiques, Applause, Petticoats, Saturday Afternoons, and 4 Muskoka Kids.
In small towns like Huntsville, Stedmans served as a traditional variety store/discount department store on Main Street, selling clothing, household goods, toys, gifts, and other everyday items. These stores were community staples — places where generations of local families would shop.
