Stats Canada says Huntsville is growing

Initial results are in from Statistics Canada’s 2016 census and the numbers show that Huntsville is growing.

In 2011, the town’s population was 19,056; in 2016 the enumerated population was 19,816, an increase of just shy of four per cent. The average increase for Ontario was 4.6 per cent and five per cent for Canada as a whole.

The number of occupied dwellings in Huntsville increased 6.7 per cent to 8,111 in 2016. With a land area of 710.01 square kilometres, Huntsville’s population density is 27.9 people per square kilometre.

Huntsville’s growth is on par with that of Bracebridge, which logged an increase of 3.9 per cent, and higher than the neighbouring townships of Lake of Bays and Muskoka Lakes which saw decreases of 8.9 per cent and 1.8 per cent respectively.
