In 2015, under the mentorship of her grandpa, Lyle Payne, J’aime Payne and her family hosted a fundraiser called You Are Not Alone, which raised $7,500 to purchase tablets for the chemo clinic.
“At the end of Lyle’s battle with cancer, our family was able to celebrate and honour the man we loved under the Hospice Huntsville roof,” says Payne. “In August 2019, our family was blessed yet again with the generosity of Hospice Huntsville as we said goodbye to Don Ouderkirk, my mother’s father, an amazing man of 91 years young. Both of my grandfathers were amazing, generous and kind men with creative spirits. Lyle was ahead of his time, carving candle holders out of rocks he gathered along the shore of Snow Lake. Don was a skilled woodworker and guitar player whose talents have been passed on from generation to generation.”
To honour these men, Payne will be hosting another fundraiser this Friday, November 22. Half of the net proceeds will be donated to Hospice Huntsville with the other half to help develop a new program for The Snow Lake Initiative, which Payne founded to support musicians. “This program will encourage our members to put on fundraisers in their local communities and utilize their talents to create positive impact,” says Payne.
The interactive fundraiser will feature an interactive free s’mores bar and an interactive grilled cheese bar, both gluten-free friendly and vegan friendly. Canvas Beer will be on tap; there will be spiked hot chocolate, too! (If you’re over 19, be sure to bring ID.)
The night’s entertainment will include a live performance by J’aime and Friends, with a special performance by four-time Guinness World Record holder, speaker, magician, storyteller and stunt artist, Scott Hammell. And look for a fabulous spread of items up for bidding in the silent auction and toonie auction.
The event is free for all ages to attend, but be sure to bring your wallet along! It runs from 7-10 p.m. on November 22 at Canvas Brewery (12 John Street, Huntsville). Get your free ticket here.
