The Huntsville Hoyas’ senior soccer season came to an end Monday when they lost the final game of the GBSSA championship 2-1 to Holy Trinity of Bradford. The Hoyas had hoped to repeat their performance of last year moving on to the OFSAA championships.

Things looked good seven minutes into the game after Cody Parent nailed a shot from 30 yards away catching the keeper off his line.

In the last minutes of the first half, however, Holy Trinity tied the game. They also scored in the second half as Huntsville was unable to defend a long ball and that proved to be the winner.

Senior Aarick Lupton said they were up against a good team.

“Holy Trinity was good at moving the ball with speed and getting players moving to open space,” he said. “They are a good team.”

Huntsville team captain Dylan Welsh thought the Hoyas had played well, just not good enough to win.

Our team play was supporting each other. The defensive line was creating frustrations for the attacking team. It was a fun game to play against a challenging team. Our guys worked hard to be first to the ball. It was a good run for four years representing Huntsville at GBSSA and OFSAA.Huntsville team captain Dylan Welsh

Huntsville soccer teams have only made it to OFSAA on two occasions, one of them being last year when they finished third in their pool. Coach John Cowan guided both of those teams, the one last year in Kingsville and in 2014 in North Bay.
