Saddle Up Huntsville is a western-themed fundraiser being hosted by the Huntsville Curling Club on September 16.
The fundraiser includes an amazing menu comprised of delicious appetizers and a pulled pork dinner with all the trimmings. There will be games, a cash bar, and professional line dancing lessons for those brave enough to participate.
Saddle Up Huntsville! is part of a series of fundraisers that the Club will host under Access125 (with the goal of raising $125,000). The funds will help get it to its goal of upgrading the building over the next three years and making it fully accessible.
“Access125 is where we need the community’s support to help us get to the finish line,” explained Huntsville Curling Club Chair of Fundraising Committee, Beth Goodhew.
The project is being done in segments. Currently, a special shed is being built which will accommodate all ice-making equipment and free up the front entryway of the building.
Next spring, the plan is to build a new double-door front entrance which will lead into a wide foyer – the first step to making the facility accessible to wheelchairs, explained Goodhew.
Other works will include making the washrooms and changerooms fully accessible and putting in an elevator which will provide wheelchair access from the ground to the lounge and ice level.
Renovations to the exterior foundation and the facade of the building are also being planned. All of the work is expected to take over the next three years to complete at a cost of about $500,000. The Club is hosting a series of fundraisers and is applying for a Trillium grant to achieve its goal.
