Rotary Dockfest returns Canada Day weekend!

After a three-year hiatus, the Rotary Dockfest returns on Saturday, June 29, to help ensure the Canada Day long weekend will be one to remember.

The core of the festival is the Bathtub Derby with its zany antics, as motorized bathtubs navigate their way through a challenging course of obstacles trying to maintain balance and speed. It’s hoped that up to forty tubs will race for the hardware this year, promising some great competition. Healthy competition aside, Dockfest is really about community engagement and raising money for good community causes.

As in past years, while the Bathtub Derby will be the main draw, Dockfest will have so much more to offer, including live music, children’s games and crafts, buskers, and food options. Planning is just getting underway, and the Huntsville Rotary Club is in discussions with the Huntsville Festival to ensure the morning and afternoon will have something for everyone.

Local businesses will be approached over the next few weeks to confirm their interest in entering a tub. First choice will go to returning Bathtub participants as, in most cases, they have tubs already outfitted with logos or company colours.

Dockfest would not be possible without strong support from the business community and once again,  Pipefusion Services Inc. and NyDock have stepped up as principal event sponsor. Owner Jan Nyquist has been a consistent supporter of Rotary and was the first to step up when the idea of the return of the bathtub derby was being discussed. In addition to cash support, Nyquist’s companies provide numerous dock and water-related devices to allow the Derby course to be created.

The Rotary Club of Huntsville has been serving the community of Huntsville and area since 1934, proudly celebrating its 90th anniversary this coming May. It is part of the international organization of Rotary International who provide humanitarian service across the globe.
