Huntsville municipal staff are expected to present Huntsville Council with a recommendation about where in the park the washroom facility should be located.
The recommendation will take into consideration soil testing results.
“The results of the recent tender for the construction and site preparation will also be discussed, along with an award decision to be made by Council,” states a release by the municipality.
According to the Town it received a total of six installation bids on two possible locations, which ranged between $92,000-$367,000.
Council has allocated funds of up to $330,000 for the installation of the washrooms as follows:
- $235,000 from a parkland reserve that is funded through development and used to enhance parks
- $95,000 from Development Charges – Outdoor Recreation Funds.
Neither of the reserves come from property tax dollars, notes the Town release.

Erin you are so correct in your comments. During the last election I heard the same quote from someone running for council “Money was not coming from taxes” While I was watching HLD doing major work on a path right beside my house he sauntered by looking for votes and I proceeded to ask why were our roads not being repaired first with our taxes!!
Wow–the bids ranged from $92,000 to $367,000–just shy of 4 TIMES AS MUCH??!!! With no explanation of why the HUGE price difference??!! Would someone please run that by us again? Saying that the money doesn’t come from property taxes isn’t sufficient. All of the funds that are spent, ultimately come from the tax payers (of the Nation, Province, District, Municipality) unless there has been money showering us in the rain/snow of which we weren’t aware?
Town council and Admin should be ashamed of the handling of this situation. A simple kind donation from a taxpayer turned into a total mess not the first time. Will this discourage others in the future? Chuck Muir has it right!!
It sure seems a waste of money when we have so many homeless and many on the verge of being homeless and our townfolk cant afford groceries. Cant you put in a septic for around $40,000. That would do. Mine works great and with the astronomical raise in property taxes seems like a good option.
Why not just return to donator and save all the hassle and after expenses!
Quite the disparity of installation costs! WOW!
Hmmm?
Are they bidding on the same thing, even on the same planet?
$92,000 vs $367,000?
