“What a thrill to see such a majestic bird here. No sign of a mate but it would be lovely if one was sitting on a nest!” writes Carol Alanko.
According to the Thousand Islands Association, the three swan species in Ontario are the Trumpeter Swan, the Mute Swan, and the Tundra Swan. The Trumpeter Swan and Mute Swan are the most commonly seen species.
Only the Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) and Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus), sometimes known as the Whistling Swan, are native to North America.
