PJHL forced to suspend games until Jan. 27

The Provincial Junior Hockey League announced this week that with current provincial restrictions in place, it will suspend play from Jan. 5 through Jan. 27. The league’s schedules are being reviewed and amended.

As part of the PJHL, Huntsville Jr. C Otters games have been suspended.

“Our number one concern is the mental and physical health of our players, coaches, staff, and fans,” PJHL commissioner Terry Whiteside said via a media release, directing people to ementalhealth.ca for mental health support if needed. “All of us want to be able to have a safe return to hockey. As the COVID situation continues to evolve we will be monitoring and preparing ourselves to be ready to return to the game.”

Whiteside said that the league takes its responsibility for the safety of participants seriously. “[W]e will continue to work with our governing bodies, local health units and facilities to provide the safest environment possible.”

Whiteside thanked players, staff, officials, volunteers, and staff for their continued support.
