For the next two years, the Town of Huntsville will continue to use Pitman’s Bay strictly for youth programming as originally intended.
The two years will give municipal staff time to develop a policy that would honour the intent of the original agreement aimed at providing programming for youth as originally intended while seeking input from a council of church representatives and other community groups and dissolving the original agreement to give the municipality more flexibility.
Huntsville Mayor Nancy Alcock stated that while selling the property was one of the options presented by staff, it was never council’s intention to sell it. “We know it’s an unbelievable public resource and we value it for that,” she said. “The first step is to get out of the original agreement and very clearly there’s lots of public support for open public access. This is a major jewel, we all need to share it…,” added Alcock.

Very good news. The photo says it all. My father, Scouter Wally Johns, up there some where, will be very happy.
