It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Murray Wood on September 1, 2024, at the age of 87.
Peter was born on October 27, 1936, to parents Donald and Margaret Wood in Toronto.
Peter grew up on Neville Park Blvd in the Beach. He enjoyed many summers with his brother Donald at the Wood Family Cottage in Port Sydney. In 1958, he married Margaret Kellock, with whom he spent 66 wonderful years. They later bought their own cottage in Huntsville in 1969 next to Marg’s sister Diane and her husband Ron Litchfield, with whom he and Marg made many memories. Peter most enjoyed spending time with his family on Pen Lake.
In 1957, Peter began sales training at Rapid Grip and Batten Ltd. and became a founding partner of Batten Graphics on July 1, 1971. He would go on to become President before retirement in 1995. Peter was an active community member and had many fond memories of his time with the Junior Board of Trade and as the Chairman of the 1968 Grey Cup and board member of the International Prepress Association for several years.
Peter was an avid volunteer with the Huntsville Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, Huntsville Festival for the Arts, and Hidden Valley Ski Club, amongst other endeavors.
Peter was a long-time member of Hidden Valley Ski Club, where he would later serve on the Board of Directors and served as President in 1988-89. Peter always looked forward to his annual fishing trip with brother-in-law Ron and friends, the annual Kellock Family golf tournament, and many vacations around the world.
Predeceased by his cherished daughter Christine in 2001.
Peter was a beloved husband to Marg and father to Tim (Lynda), the late Christine (Greg), and David (Carrie). Loving Boppa to grandchildren Andrew (Samantha), Jordan, and Mitchell Wood, Graydon, Lise, Matthew, and Nathalie Grant, and Carter, Harrison and Mackenzie Wood; great-grandchildren Elliot and Ruby Wood.
Loving brother to Donald Wood (Joan) and brother-in-law to Diane Litchfield (the late Ron).
Peter will be forever loved and missed by his nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Peter’s beaming smile and positive attitude will be forever in our hearts.
The family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 High Street, Huntsville, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 2-4 and 6–8 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will take place on October 19, 2024. The location and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations to Huntsville Hospital Foundation under Peter’s name would be appreciated.

It didn’t matter what kind of day you were having (or probably what kind of day Peter was having) when he saw you he always had a big grin and hello for you. One of the kindest people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with.

I remember Peter with so many wonderful memories, especially his warm loving smile and his kindness to everyone he met. I also remember his hard work as a volunteer at the Huntsville hospital. Such a kind loving man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially Marg.
