Next time you take the side street exit when leaving the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot in Huntsville, don’t forget to stop and look both ways.
At its February 27 meeting, council approved a stop sign in that very same location, following a safety complaint.
Huntsville CAO Denise Corry said the complaint brought to staff’s attention was from a resident who observed several near hits in that location because motorists often forget to look both ways before pulling out of the parking lot.
They have to stop and obviously check before they pull out because they’re not doing it. People are just coming out and there have been reports that there have been a number of near misses at that location Huntsville CAO Denise Corry
Corry said municipal staff investigated that location and determined that a stop sign is warranted.

And it’s back up! It didn’t take Town staff long to stand up this temporary sign, knocked down by the wind earlier today.
“It’s very similar to what you see over at the liquor store and Canadian Tire. Those are both access points to a municipal road from a private parking lot, so we have stop signs there as well,” she said
Corry said the amount of traffic on King William Street alone ensures that motorists stop and carefully proceed when pulling out of that side of the Shopper’s parking lot. “But that side road, I think some people are not aware that there’s a road that comes up through there, so that’s the difference,” said Corry, referring to the Scott Street exit.
