Passenger gets grabby with taxi cab driver and ends up getting charged

A Waterloo man was in court recently after admitting to grabbing a taxi cab driver in Gravenhurst.

Appearing in a Bracebridge court, David Hardy, 42, pled guilty to assault.

The court heard that on Aug. 6, 2022, the Bracebridge OPP received a call from a taxi cab company. A driver there said she had picked up Hardy and two other men from a golf course in Gravenhurst. There was a disagreement over the cost of the fare and Hardy said he should be able to “see her boobies,” for that price. He then reached across and “contacted her breast area,” court heard.

The defence said the crime was “momentary and impulsive,” and made while Hardy was under the influence of alcohol.

Hardy was given a conditional discharge and 12 months probation.

Alcohol is not an excuse for bad behaviour. “Boys will be boys” is an archaic term and we know better now. This guy deserves a more punitive sentence.

  2. Brenda Begg says:

Stop allowing the patriarchal excuse re momentary and impulsive behaviour due to being under the influence of alcohol. This impulsive comment may (probably will) have long term detrimental effects on this taxi employee.

If this taxi employee needs counselling, will the offender be responsible for the counselling fees? No.
