The 2nd Annual Carlos Burmeister Memorial tournament was held in Huntsville on August 21 with over 60 players participating in the 5-on-5 event.
This was nearly double the number of players who participated in the inaugural fundraising tournament held in 2021.
Funds raised (the final tally from this year is still to be announced) go to benefit the Team Carlos Foundation’s efforts to support underprivileged children in their soccer endeavours.
Carlos Burmeister was a true soccer fan, playing and coaching with lots of skill and passion for the Huntsville Soccer Club, school teams, and other clubs over the years. In response to his early passing, his family and friends have established the Foundation in honour of Carlos’ belief that “every kid needs a soccer ball.”
All funds raised will be used to purchase new quality soccer balls, which will have the Team Carlos logo, and will be distributed to disadvantaged communities in Canada and worldwide.
This year’s tournament was organized by representatives of the foundation and the Huntsville Soccer Club, including Dave Smrtka, Kelly Burmeister, Kyle Litchfield, and Graham Thompson.
The foundation and club were appreciative as several volunteers also helped in setting up and taking down event tents. This year’s tournament featured sponsorships from The SportLab, Muskoka Brewery, and Renegade Landscaping.
