Our Town When is it time

Our Town with Grant Nickalls: When is it time?

Each week, Huntsville’s own Grant Nickalls will inspire us, entertain us, make us laugh or perhaps cry, but always he will remind us why Huntsville is the best place on earth to call home.

This week in Our Town, watching a beloved pet age isn’t easy. And, nothing personal against veterinarians, but sometimes frustration can lead to differences in opinion for care.

Veterinarians are just people. Some are good some are crap. Finding a great vet is just as difficult as finding a great dentist. My last five pets all went to sleep here at their home with the kind assistance of a vet and a tech. The grieving is much easier this way. I miss them all. Most of us grieve over our pets

We spent $1500 each on our last two cats at the end of their lives to no avail. It would have been kinder to have put them down sooner. We need to be more accepting of death and recognize the right time to let go.

Our pets are on loan to us for such a short time that it is over before we know it. Trust your vet.
