A 45-year-old Huntsville man has been sentenced to 18 months in custody after pleading guilty to a series of criminal offences in a Bracebridge courtroom.
Ryan King appeared in court recently and admitted to charges including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, break and enter, mischief, possession of a prohibited weapon, multiple driving offences, and breaches of court orders.
The court heard that on July 21, 2024, Ontario Provincial Police observed a pickup truck travelling at a high rate of speed. King was identified as the driver and was found to be operating the vehicle while holding a G1 licence and while prohibited from driving due to a previous conviction for impaired driving causing bodily harm.
On September 13, 2024, OPP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a residence in Huntsville. Police observed drugs inside the vehicle and, upon investigation, located approximately 13.63 grams of cocaine in the vehicle, 18 grams on King, and an additional 2.4 grams nearby. Officers also seized homemade brass knuckles and a folding knife.
Further incidents followed on January 16, 2025, when OPP officers on patrol on Main Street stopped a vehicle after noticing it had no licence plate light. King was driving and was found to be unlicensed and still under a driving prohibition. Police located several prohibited weapons inside the vehicle, including a switchblade, a stun gun, and throwing knives.
The following day, July 17, 2025, OPP were called to a potential break and enter on Ravenscliffe Road. A witness reported seeing a suspect enter a neighbour’s residence and attempted to block the suspect’s vehicle with their own. The suspect attempted to flee via a snowmobile trail but became stuck and then fled on foot. Police located and arrested King a short time later.
Following his guilty pleas, King was sentenced to 18 months in custody.
