OPP responds to concern about parking in accessible spaces | Letters

The OPP has responded to concerns expressed in a letter to this publication by a Go Home Lake resident regarding police parking in limited accessible parking spaces. You can find that letter HERE.

We are aware of a letter regarding the use of accessible parking by members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at Go Home Lake that was published by the Huntsville Doppler on June 27, 2025. We want to assure the public that we understand the concerns raised. A review was conducted, and the matter was addressed internally when the incident was reported to the OPP in July 2024.

The OPP is proud of its members and the exemplary service they demonstrate every day. Public trust and confidence are essential to the OPP. Our officers are held to a higher standard and we take their actions seriously.

Anyone who has a concern or complaint about an OPP officer is encouraged to contact the officer’s Detachment Commander or immediate supervisor. Most complaints about an OPP officer’s behaviour are resolved informally to everyone’s satisfaction.

If the complaint cannot be resolved locally, members of the public have the option of lodging a complaint with the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA), which is an independent civilian oversight agency. Their website can be accessed at leca.ca.

And just so we’re clear, the ‘independent civilian oversight agency’ or LECA is staffed entirely by retired police officers and ex members of law enforcement. It’s retired police officers policing their old friends. It’s a sham.

Come on, who are you trying to fool?

The system is rigged. There’s not enough lipstick in the world to cover up this bovine mess.

  2. Drew Hutcheson says:

From this OPP response it is not clear whether OPP cars will continue to park in those disabled spots. Would the OPP please clarify in plain English?

  3. John Finley says:

What would happen if I or another member of the public parks in an accessible parking spot?
