Ontario Northland’s Huntsville bus stop moves to new location

Effective November 5, 2023, the Huntsville stop for the Ontario Northland Bus will move and passenger pickup will be on Main Street West by 60 Station Road. The bus will not be stopping at the Ravenscliffe Road location after November 4, 2023.

Signage has been posted at the new location and benches and garbage cans will be moved to the stop on Station Road once all necessary approvals have been obtained.

A sign has been posted at the Ravenscliffe Road stop to inform the public of the change of location. The signage was provided by Ontario Northland and will remain in place for at least a week.

If I’m understanding this properly, the Main Street stop is a temporary solution until proper approvals are obtained for the Station Road stop. That is a dangerous interim solution; dangerous for pedestrians and drivers for obvious reasons. Why not just wait for the ultimate bus stop which is quite desirable. This Main Street stop is even worse than the previous one and that’s saying something because it’s awful.

I cannot believe that the town of Huntsville would allow a bus stop to be situated on the side of a main artery road with no proper shelter or parking. This seems so random as if it’s the last place possible to locate a bus stop. It is not even close in proximity to be able to walk to something close for warmth, to rest, to wait for a ride, to get out of the weather if it is snowing, raining, cold, windy. In all of Huntsville there must be a better, safer location than this. Huntsville can do better!

I thought the new location was supposed to be at the train station. That would have made sense. Stopping on the street does not. If something could not be worked out with the building owner, then another location should be sought.

    So two things I wonder.

1 Where is the warm place to wait for the bus? Is a user supposed to just stand in the snow on the side of the road?
2 When dropping off a user, where is the car that brought them supposed to park to wait, especially if it has to double as the “warm place to wait” as I suspect it will?

Ontario Northland bus might note that humans are not like cows that can just be left standing in an open field in the rain or snow for 40 minutes, at least not if they are to have a nice travel experience.
Some kind of location like Horton’s, where they can get inside out of the weather, have a coffee, use a washroom, is almost an imperative in Canada’s winter season and a nice feature all the rest of the year.
