Know a community champion? Nominations are open for Rotary Club’s community recognition awards

The Rotary Club of Huntsville is seeking nominations for its 2017 Community Recognition Award.

The award celebrates an individual in the community who deserves recognition for their service in our town, someone who goes above and beyond, shows compassion, dedication and commitment to this town and its residents, and who exemplifies Rotary’s motto of “service above self”.

In 2016, then-Rotary Club President Brandy Van Gelder proudly presented the Community Recognition of the Year awards to Randy and Tracy Robinson of Robinson’s Independent Grocer. The high honour of a Paul Harris Fellowship Award was given for their efforts and contributions to not only the Rotary Club of Huntsville, but the community as a whole. With their generous donations and active participation in events and functions, Randy and Tracy epitomize true community spirit.

Other past Paul Harris Fellow award recipients have included Jan Nyquist and Wendy Dingman.

Nomination Criteria:

  1. Nominees must be a resident of the Huntsville community (including Emsdale, Dwight and Dorset)
  2. Nominees can be any age
  3. It is an honour to be recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, therefore the nominee as a non-Rotarian should hold the same values and ethics as those of Rotary members:
    -The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
    -High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each person’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
    -The application of the ideal of service in each person’s personal, business, and community life;
    -The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Paul Harris was Rotary’s founder. The award in his name was created to recognize the contributions and service of Rotarians to their club, but clubs are also encouraged to bestow the award on non-Rotarian community members who embody the spirit of Rotary in contributions to their community.

Nominations for the 2017 award must be submitted no later than April 28, 2017. The nomination form is available here.
