No stopping/fire access signs coming to South Mary Lake Road

At its Monday, November 28 meeting, Huntsville Council agreed to designate parts of South Mary Lake Road from civic address 340 to 434 as a no stopping/fire access route.

The motion will go to the District of Muskoka for final implementation.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Chief Gary Monahan explained that the request had come from the Town’s bylaw department in anticipation of a new Christian school which will be located across the street from the fire station on that road. He said it’s a fairly large school and there were concerns about traffic congestion during the drop-off and pick-up of students at the school. The signs will ensure that the area is clear for emergency vehicles such as fire tracks that need to get in and out of the station.

This would also be an ideal time to designate the same area a school zone and implement a 40km/hr maximum speed.
