The first ever vegetarian and vegan festival, aptly named Muskoka VegFest, was held at River Mill Park on Saturday, August 11, 2018, drawing many curious visitors. Patrons got a chance to sample vegan food and drinks and learn about animal cruelty-free products and clothing. The Toronto Vegetarian Association had a booth at the venue, as did an animal rights group, spreading the word about The Official Animal Rights March taking place in Toronto on Aug. 25. A panel of like-minded speakers, led by YouTube vlogger Mic the Vegan, sat at a table in the bandshell and talked about the merits of an animal-free diet.
- One of the T-shirts for sale at VegFest.
- Sign on Huntsville’s Main Street reminding those walking by that VegFest was taking place.

This seemed to be a very popular vendor with some of the proceeds from the sale of their food, including vegan hot dogs and Sloppy Jane’s, going to rescue dogs.

Activists were also present, championing the rights of animals.
- There were also speakers.
- Toronto Vegetarian Association was also present.
- There were also tons of vendors at the event.
- Julia Sutton with Muskoka North Good Food Co-op, was also at the festival.

Friendships were also forged. Heather Berg of the Table Food Bank (right) and Tammy Purdy of Parry Sound agreed to work cooperatively to get tower gardens into Huntsville schools, businesses and other buildings. They said they’re hoping the initiative will help educate people about growing their own food while hopefully getting them to donate it to the food bank. A similar initiative is already in place in Parry Sound.

As you know, I do nothing but applaud Doppler (its management and its reporters). I do, however, have a small reservation regarding Veg Fest. Although, no doubt, it appeared in “Community Events”; a feature article (in advance) would have been most welcome. I regret that I totally missed it: It is one of the many areas which interest me.
Great success . Some excellent vegan foods…Well done !
