Muskoka Loppet cancelled for this year

Citing current pandemic restrictions and a concern for the health and safety of participants, volunteers and Arrowhead Park staff, organizers of the annual Muskoka Loppet have decided to cancel the event for 2022.

The Muskoka Loppet was scheduled for Jan. 30. It also had to be cancelled in 2021.

“While it’s true that the Loppet would technically be allowed under current public health guidelines, the sheer size of the event, and the number of people involved, including skiers, volunteers and Park staff, makes it almost impossible to guarantee everyone’s safety,” Arrowhead Nordic, the organizers of the event, noted on its website. “In addition, current guidelines prevent us from using indoor spaces to warm up, and from serving food, both of which are important to offering a safe and enjoyable experience for all.”

Arrowhead Nordic still encourages people to enjoy local cross-country ski trails in a safe manner. The trails at both Arrowhead Provincial Park and Limbetlost Reserve are open. Check their websites for details and watch Arrowhead’s social media channels for daily capacity limits.
