This year marks Muskoka Community Foundation’s 10th anniversary as a Community Foundation, supporting charities and not-for-profits in Muskoka. To begin the celebrations the Foundation will be awarding over $40,000 in grants to 15 charities from across Muskoka at the 4th Annual Smart & Caring Muskoka Celebration held at the Mark O’Meara Club house on May 5th. These grants are the result of partnering the Smart & Caring Muskoka Fund with the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th.
Muskoka Community Foundation is proud to partner with the Community Foundations of Canada and the Government of Canada to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. “We are very privileged to have the support of both seasonal and permanent residents of Muskoka who contribute to the Smart & Caring Muskoka Fund. This fund has allowed us to match monies provided through the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th and put over $50,000 back into the community since November 2016 with more to come” said Program Director Lynn DeCaro.
When asked what it feels like to reach this milestone, Gord Durnan, Vice-Chair and founding member of the Muskoka Community Foundation said “Muskoka charities do amazing work to create a positive impact both on people’s lives but also in caring for our culture, history and our precious environment. Muskoka Community Foundation has the privilege of connecting caring donors with these charities as they deliver programs benefitting thousands of Muskoka residents”.
Since 2007 Muskoka Community Foundation has granted over $280,000 to local charities. Currently the organization administers over $800,000 in endowed funds. Muskoka Community Foundation (MCF) is a charity for charities dedicated to building a smart and caring Muskoka.
