Monday morning Hwy 11 drive results in charges for Emsdale man

On Monday, March 30th, 2026, at approximately 10:56 a.m., officers of the Huntsville OPP Detachment received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving the South Muskoka area, travelling northbound on Highway 11 and a vehicle description was provided.

Huntsville OPP members patrolled Highway 11 and soon after located the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was stopped by police, and the officer immediately suspected the driver of having alcohol in his system and demanded that the driver provide a breath sample into an approved screening device. The driver failed the roadside test and was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher WILLIAMS, 68 years old of Emsdale, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Breach of Probation

The accused was released from custody with a court date of April 28, 2026, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.

The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The Huntsville OPP appreciate members of our communities assisting them in removing impaired drivers from our roadways.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING.

These events could have easily been avoided had the drivers planned ahead before consuming alcohol or drugs. Don’t include alcohol or drugs in any plans to drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another option that eliminates driving altogether.

If you suspect impaired driving, please call 911. Keep our roads safe!

Once we have laws that take the vehicle away and sell it then the message might be taken seriously.

  2. William Kidd says:

The problem is the fact that a person doesn’t need brains or a license or insurance to drive a vehicle on the road. Unless a person is under lock and key they have possible access to a vehicle to drive.

  3. Doug Smith says:

Bill Bell, If the government didn’t want people to drink and drive, they wouldn’t ever remove the zero alcohol restriction for new drivers. Transport Canada has zero alcohol for all pilots, including people who fly toy drones. If driving is a privilege, why is being allowed to drink and drive, a right?

  4. BILL BELL says:

Just about every issue of this paper has a story of impaired drivers. This issue has two.
When will these brain dead people wake up.
A very very good friend of mine in Belleville just lost his 19 year old son Sam to a drunk driver. Only 19. Attending university. I cannot imagine what his mom and dad are going through.
Not sure what, but more needs to be done to stop this. Stronger penalties. More education. Shaming.
