The regular hockey season has come to a close but the door has opened to the OMHA playdowns, when all of the Huntsville Otters age groups and divisions come together as a team to celebrate all of their hard work. It’s the most exciting time of year for the players, coaches, parents and spectators. It’s the time where the team brings everything they have to the ice and compete to move ahead through the series of teams in their division.
The hometown Huntsville Otters teams all faced off against the South Muskoka Bears for the first OMHA preliminary playdowns. Results are as follows:
The Little Caesars Atom AE met the South Muskoka Bears AE for three games from January 14 to January 20 but lost with the Otters at zero points and the Bears at six points.
The Huntsville Honda PeeWee AE played four games from January 13 to January 21 against the South Muskoka Bears AE and won three out of the four with Otters receiving six points and the Bears two. The PeeWee AE Otters move on to the next round against the Collingwood AE4 Black Hawks.
Their first game was January 28 in Collingwood and they lost 3-9 but came out swinging with two wins in a row 4-3 in Huntsville and 3-2 in Collingwood. The Otters lost their fourth game 0-3 but fought to win the series in their fifth and final game in Collingwood winning by two points.
The PeeWee AE will be faced off against the Tweed Hawks in their first game on Saturday, February 11.
The Huntsville Tire Craft Novice Rep met the South Muskoka Bears January 27 to February 5. They fought for five hard games, winning their first, tying a game and losing three with the series ending with the Otters at three points and the Bears at seven.
The Fowlers Atom Rep played six games against the South Muskoka Bears from January 26 to February 5 in a close series, winning two games, tying one and losing three to end with five points versus the Bears’ seven.
The Invisible Fence PeeWee Rep team played January 27 to February 3 against the South Muskoka Bears, winning two out of five games – one game short of moving on.
The Sutton Group Bantam Rep Otters played three games against the South Muskoka Bears from January 28 to February 2 but lost all three.
The Tawingo Bantam AE also played and lost three games against the South Muskoka Bears AE from January 28 to February 3.

Armstrong Dodge AE Otters
The Armstrong Dodge Midget AE Otters played against the South Muskoka Bears AE for five games from January 14 to January 22. The series began in Gravenhurst with a tie and then a loss followed by a win. The teams were tied for points and the excitement was high for the third-year players whose hockey careers would be coming to an end. The tension brought out the best in all players from both teams. The fourth game saw the Otters lose and the final do or die game was taken by the Bears. Congrats to all of the team members who showed such gratitude and sportsmanship as they exited off the ice.
The MBRP Major Midget team started their playdowns on January 21 against the South Muskoka Bears. Both teams were fighting to move on, alternating a win and then a loss for five straight games. The Otters won three out of the five games to secure a spot in the quarterfinals against the Collingwood Black Hawks beginning Saturday, February 11 in Collingwood followed by a home game on Sunday, February 12 at 5:10 in the Don Lough arena.
