Ontario’s Government for the People is supporting fishing and hunting in Ontario by putting a stop to hunting and fishing licence fee increases and removing the $2 service fee.
“This will not only benefit the thousands of people in Parry Sound-Muskoka who hunt and fish but also the tourism businesses that rely upon hunting and fishing to attract visitors,” said Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norman Miller.
Hunting contributes more than $431 million to Ontario’s economy while recreational fishing contributes $2.2 billion.
“We’re making it easier for Ontarians to enjoy the great outdoors by keeping hunting and fishing licences affordable,” said John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry. “This year, there will be no price hike and no service fee.”
In addition to freezing the fees, Ontario is promoting fishing by adding two new licence-free fishing events in 2019 on the weekends of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. The government has also updated hunting regulations to, for example, include a new Licence Summary that can be stored on a mobile device.
“Our hunters and anglers are among the best stewards of our lands and waters,” said Miller. “We want to make it easier for them to take part in the sports they love in Parry Sound-Muskoka and across Ontario.”
