There are 21 candidates running for nine positions in the Town of Huntsville and there’s a race for every single one of those positions!
Huntsville Doppler has reached out to the candidates running for ward and District council and asked them, in their own words, to introduce themselves and tell voters what they bring to the table.
Below are the candidates running for Chaffey Ward. In this category, there are three candidates vying for one position. Good luck to them all and thank you for running.
The municipal election day takes place on October 24.
Shawn Bouillon
Being someone who was born here in Huntsville left and returned I bring fresh new ideas, I want to clean the town up from the abandoned buildings make affordable housing for everyone and balance the budget so roads especially can be maintained and repaired properly, being both bisexual and indigenous I have faced discrimination from the town before and I want to make it so others are not. I want everyone to be treated equally.
- I would like to see the history paid town staff and bylaw officers dropped down to reflect how much work they actually do.
- Short term rentals should be considered as long as respect for the environment and neighbour’s can be maintained.
- I would like to see private property owners respected and have the right to live off there own property and enjoy it peacefully,
- I would like to see some parks transformed for the youth of the town to have a variety of activities they can do and stay out of trouble.
- I would like to see the old mall and other buildings repaired and brought up to standards so they can be rented out or sold instead of sitting abandoned and an eye sore.
- Instead of multi million dollar condos build affordable housing and parking while fixing up the few we have.
- I would like to see some mental health programs put in place to help those in need.
- I want equal rights and opportunities for everyone, and I want to be a councilor who can be approached with peoples ideas instead of only rea he’d through town hall I encourage people to stop me and voice there opinions.
Cory Clarke
My name is Cory Clarke and I am a candidate to be your Town Councilor for Chaffey Ward. I have lived and worked in Huntsville all of my life. For the last 23 years, I have been a licensed realtor. I’ve worked with my dad, Len Clarke, during that time and learned from one of the best. Len is a former town councilor, and also a former mayor of Huntsville. During my career, I have been involved in hundreds of real estate transactions. I also own and operate One Stop General Store next to Wimpy’s Diner on King William Street. I have owned the store for the past 13 years.
I talk with many people in a given week, and they feel it’s time for new people to step up. I agree. That is one of the reasons I am running.
My priorities:
To be your voice for positive change in Huntsville. A new face at council, bringing a fresh perspective and a common sense approach to decisions that are made. I would always ask the question “Are we making things better or worse with this decision?”
To be financially accountable and responsible with your money, balance the budget, and spend wisely while being publicly transparent and honest with you. Continue caring for, repairing, looking after, and budgeting for our existing infrastructure and town-owned properties.
Continue with the work of getting our roads repaired and stick to that plan. We also need to make sure we continue to budget future funds for road upgrades and repairs.
To be open to any and all ideas to build affordable housing. Focusing on responsible development.
Above all else, I want to leave things better than when I start and work to make Huntsville an even better place for you.
Saleem Hall
My focus will be on honest representation of Chaffey Ward and its constituents, to represent their collective and diverse concerns at the Council table.
Connecting with residents in Chaffey has given me the chance to sharpen my understanding of the unique issues members of the Chaffey community want to see addressed at Council.
My commitment at Council would be:
- Approach every vote and motion with careful reflection on the needs of Chaffey Ward and its community members, giving thoughtful consideration to how best I can advocate for those needs.
- Build on the relationships I have fostered at the District level to bring attention and resources to issues that may fall under District jurisdiction.
- Help create a Town strategic plan that is realistic, achievable and equitable to all residents of Huntsville while giving a voice to Chaffey residents.
- Continually engage and listen to residents of Chaffey to help shape how I approach Town policy.
- Learn what I need to know in order to represent my constituents intelligently and successfully.
- Provide honest and timely feedback, even if the response is not favourable
I will bring my years of experience in governance and work on various boards of directors along with the networks I have fostered through the years:
- Employee at the local Huntsville YMCA
- Member of Board of Directors for Muskoka Futures & Huntsville Rotarian
- Experience on Board and Community Committees supporting nursing employment, legal aid clinics, and community policing initiatives
- Ongoing commitment to building and expanding the labour market in our community
- Lifelong commitment to assisting youth with education and mental health support and connections
I could go on; however, the most important things I bring to the table are my values of honesty, transparent governance and a commitment to community.
However you vote in October, make sure your voice is heard. That’s what matters most.
Thank you

I find these snapshots of the candidates helpful and appreciate both the candidates and the Doppler making this possible. One request…although I’ve resided here for 23 years, I still am confused by the Ward names. Would it be possible for the Doppler to show not just the Ward name but also the boundaries for the Ward so that it’s easier for those challenged as I am, by Ward names, to more easily know if the candidates are representing the wards we live in or not? Thank you
