Marion Kathleen (Sanderson) Lindsay

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the age of 94 years, Marion Lindsay, beloved wife of Roy A Lindsay of Clear Lake, N of Huntsville, ON (until 2003), and loving partner, Murray Hooper (2005-2022), passed away peacefully at her Calgary AB home with daughter Leslie at her side and in the company of Bob and Loreen.

Marion was born to Mary and Everard (Sandy) Sanderson on February 7, 1930, in her grandparents’ home in Cartwright Township, ON.

She was the youngest of three sisters, Helen Anne (Sanderson) Schick-Revell (1924-2001) and Evelyn Jean (Sanderson) Barnes (1928-2022)

During the Great Depression of the 30s, the family moved to Northern Ontario to clear a homestead and begin farming the rocky soils. In the 40s, the family returned to a more prosperous Toronto for a new start. During Marion’s early high school years, the family returned to farming in the Cambridge, ON, area. Upon graduation, Marion began work as Secretary to the President of Newlands Corp.

In the years that followed Marion had the good fortune to meet Roy Lindsay and they began their life together in 1953. They built their first home together on her parents’ land in Cambridge and soon began a family with the births of Laurie and Colleen. In the early 60s, following the birth of Leslie, Roy and Marion with their young family, ventured out to Whittier, California, where Roy worked for General Time.

Wishing to be closer to family, Roy and Marion made their way back to Ontario with a short stop in Michigan. They settled in Agincourt, where they lived from 1967 to 1990 before moving to the wonderful cottage they had acquired in 1973. The cottage was so loved, and Marion was always offering a Welcome! to extended family and friends. The years at the cottage included a growing family, complete with grandchildren.

Following the passing of her husband Roy, her love of music and ability to play the piano by ear eventually introduced her to the Hooper family and, most importantly, Murray. Fate allowed Murray and Marion to find and love each other throughout their later years. These years were filled with adventure as they purchased recreational trailers and travelled the country.

Following Murray’s passing in 2022, Marion again travelled west to make her home in Calgary with her youngest daughter Leslie. She had the opportunity to travel and love the nearby Rockies as well as make trips to visit friends and family, both further west in Sooke BC and then back again all the way to cottages in Ontario.

Marion’s gift of music, life, enjoying the odd Rye, and her love of puzzles will always bring a smile to our hearts. She is already missed dearly.

A Burial and Celebration of Marion’s Life will take place in late summer or early Fall in Ontario. She will be buried at Cartwright Union Cemetery alongside her husband Roy, just slightly down the road from her birthplace. She will look North, over the fields, to Murray’s resting place and be forever thankful for her good fortunes.
