Marion Edith Ford (nee Smith)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Edith Ford (nee Smith) on the 24th of August 2023.  Marion was born in Orillia, Ontario on April 29, 1948, to the late Irwin and the late Edith Smith.

Marion worked at Canadian Tire and was the bookkeeper for Turner’s Garage and many other small businesses.

Marion has been missing trailer camping, boating, fishing, and four-wheeling since her husband Jim Long passed away in 2009, but Marion continued to enjoy going to the casino, music concerts, and local events with friends.

Marion cherished her winters at her Florida home, enjoying the people and the many activities the park had to offer.

Marion loved to crochet and a good cribbage game. She was a member of The Red Hat Ladies in Huntsville, Orillia, and Bonita Springs, Florida.

Her Legion membership brought a different social circle where she truly enjoyed old and new friends, playing cards, and other activities. She especially loved the meat draws.

Marion was an avid reader. She kept up with the news, reading every section of her newspaper. She could often be found with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.

Marion is survived by her daughters Lesley Ford of Bobcaygeon, and Deanna Ford of Port Colborne, granddaughter Katlyn Clark of Oshawa, and her great-grandchildren Ryan, Nathaniel, and Kinsley. Marion will be missed by her sisters Karen Martin of Oro-Medonte and Eileen Scott of Scarborough, her nieces Cheri and Shayne, and dear friends Maureen, Joan, Sherry, and Tracy.

Marion is predeceased by her husband Jim Long, her mother Edith, her father Irwin, her son Kevin, and her brothers-in-law Len and Ted.

A very special thank you to Wilf McQuinn who has been Marion’s driver to the airport and many out-of-town medical appointments for many years and for all the little extra things you did for Marion.

Many thanks to the staff of Closing the Gap for your care over the past 3 years, you were like family to her.

Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and PSWs at RVH and Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital for your care over the past 6 months.

To the team at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, we thank you so much for the care and support in making Marion comfortable in her final days.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life was held downstairs at the Royal Legion Branch 232 in Huntsville on September 9, 2023, from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. A private interment took place at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery after the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Huntsville Hospital Kidney Dialysis Unit or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 232, in Huntsville would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Marion, you will be missed.
