Main Street Huntsville shows its Olympic spirit

The 23rd Winter Olympic Games started yesterday and with Huntsville native Dara Howell set to take to the slopes in PyeongChang next Friday, downtown Huntsville businesses have begun displaying their Olympic spirit in support of the hometown golden girl. This will be the second trip to the Winter Olympics for Howell, who won gold in Sochi in 2014.

Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area, where Howell learned to ski, will be hosting an Olympic Viewing Party on Friday, February 19 starting at 7:00 p.m. The women’s slopestyle competition begins at 8:00 p.m. with the finals at 11:00 p.m.

Anyone who wants to show that they’re with Team Dara can purchase red or pink shirts at Up North Games on Main Street for $20 each, tax in. Proceeds from shirt sales will support Dara’s Fund which provides grants to Muskoka women and girls pursuing their own dreams in sport.

Huntsville has a world class athlete representing Canada at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Korea. Why isn’t there some recognition of this displayed in front of our Town Hall? At the very least hang a banner in support of Dara on the front railing of the Town Hall. Show a little class!!!
