Wayback Wednesday, sponsored by Jamie Lockwood, broker/owner of Sutton Group Muskoka Realty!

This photo hangs in the renovated Madill Church building, which will continue serving as a community hub. It was taken on Sunday, June 16, 1935. It was the church’s 60th anniversary.

The pioneer square log building was built in 1873. In 2017, community members learned that it was in danger of being demolished. That same year, the community banded together to preserve a part of Huntsville’s history. Volunteers stepped forward to form the Madill Church Preservation Society. Following years of fundraising initiatives, donations, and grants, the building underwent an extensive renovation. Last Sunday, July 13, 2025, the Madill Church Preservation Society held a grand opening and invited community members to see the renovated building.

Is it possible to identify any of the people in the picture at Madill Church in the early days posted this Wednesday.
Sad so much has been forgotten, misunderstood or not recorded of Muskoka’s early days . Thank you to everyone who has tried.
Restoration of Madill church is much appreciated.
To Carolynn and all the people supporting this Madill Church Project, THANK YOU!! the other churches in Allensville have all gone the way of extinction. Allensville Hall is gone, our old school is a lovely home now, Cairns United Cemetary is reduced to a couple of tombstones and known as McNichol Cemetary, and other traces of our history have faded into oblivion. It is with so much appreciation when I see “the ole girl” for all the work, material and financial support given to this significant part of our past. Congratulations!!
